Bus fumes

Sir, — Mr M. G. Taylor’s reply to the letter from “Please Think” about fumes from Transport Board buses, just does not make sense. Why should a bus be allowed even three minutes of fuel wasting and pollution each time it comes under his so-called standing time? It takes only a second to turn off an engine and another second to switch on. The accumulative wastage of fuel for all of those three minutes, and the pollution, which in spite of his comparison to the petrol engine; are still far more unpiea-; sant, are completely unnecessary. — Yours etc., SWITCH OFF. March 26, 1975.
