Soldier Girl, a form runner in the Wakefield Challenge Stakes at Trentham on Saturday, completed her preparation for the feature two-year-old race with a most attractive workout at Wingatui yesterday. Working on the course proper, which was in excellent order, and ridden by light-weight Mark

Murray, Soldier Girl shaded her stable-mate Dodger (W. Riach), two lengths clear of Miss Arragon (A. Brownlie) at the end of 1000 metres in Imin 4 2-ssec. They kept up a strong gallop over the last 600 in 39 2-ssec. A last winner of the Canterbury Challenge Shakes, Soldier Girl is in top order for her trin to Trentham. She is due to leave this morning and will stay, overnight at Riccarton. She will be accompanied by her trainer, Cliff Jones. No rider has yet been engaged, but her connections are hopeful that David Peake, her jockey at Riccarton, will be free to take the mount. Glamis Knight (R. Waters) came home in Imin 5 2-ssec, the last 600 in 39 2-ssec. Kurlmai (G. Julius) worked well alongside Hear Ye (B. Anderton), Wat Next (G. Offen) and Mylindvlou (B. Kennedy) in Imin 6sec. the first 400 in 25sec. Mace (G. Sanderson) was galloping well within himself over 800 in 53sec. the last 600 in 40sec. Rlchneil (R. Waters) and Darnley Fair (K. Powell) were together in 54sec. Laome (G. Julius), Fair Mystery (B. Kennedy). Lucy Mellay (G. Offen) and Cock Your Ear (B. Anderton) were given an easy task in 56sec, the last 600 in 41sec.
