New stallion arrives

(N.Z. Press Association)

AUCKLAND.

Riverton, the most expensive privately-purchased stallion yet to come to New Zealand, arrived in Auckland by sea yesterday. He will be in quarantine for 10 days at Te Kauwhata before travelling south to his new home, the Fairdale Stud at Longburn, near Palmerston North.

Riverton (Luthier—River Plate) was unbeaten as a two-year-old one of his three victories being at the expense of Mississipian, later a top European three-year-old.

Had he not been eliminated from the European classics through suffering the dreaded “Newmarket cough” early in his three-year-old career. it is doubtful whether Riverton could ever have been purchased for New Zealand.
