HUNTER IS CLEARED
(N.Z. Press Association)
AUCKLAND.
Charlie Hunter, the Cambridge trainer of Young Quinn, has been cleared to drive the horse in the $50,000 Miracle Mile at Harold Park in Sydney on Friday night. Hunter was injured in a race smash on the second night of the recent Benson and Hedges Inter-Dominion Championships carnival at Alexandra Park.
He had both arms placed in plaster and his assistant. John Langdon, took over the reins and not only won the two other qualifying heats and $60,000 Pacers’ Grand Final but for good measure notched the 520.000 Trotters’ Grand Final with the Hunter-trained Castleton's Pride.
It was originally intended that Langdon would drive Young Quinn in the Miracle Mlle in Sydney, but Hunter said vesterday that he has had the plaster removed from both arms and is already cleared for driving. Langdon will not now make the trip to Sydney, but will remain behind to sunervise the training of the big Hunter team. If Young Quinn performs well in the Miracle Mile he will stay on for further feature races in Sydney.
In case he does not. Hunter has Young Quinn booked to fly home again on Friday week.
