Pensioner gardening

Tenants of pensioner housing units should be encouraged to maintain the garden plots outside their cottages, the Christchurch City Council’s housing and property committee was told yesterday.

This came after discussion of the efforts of a Miss P. Keane, of 1 Harold Denton Place, who was awarded a certificate of merit by the Christchurch Beautifying Association for her efforts. The director of reserves (Mr H. G. Gilpin) and the chairman of the housing and property committee (Cr B. J. Britten) will investigate awarding a suitable prize for a garden competition to be (held for elderly tenants in 'pensioners’ cottages.
