Sheila face climbed

(From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, Feb. 26. An ascent of the northwest (Sheila) face of Mount Cook was made on February 19 and 20 by Messrs W. Anderson, of Christchurch, and P. Scaife, of Wanaka, the duty ranger at Mount Cook National Park headquarters (Mr D. Massam) said today.

The climb, was accomplished with a grand traverse over the three peaks of Mount Cook. Mr Massam said the men left from the Empress Hut (8300 ft which is on the west buttresses of Mount Cook between the Empress and Sheila Glaciers, and descended by way of the north-west couloir, thus completing the mile-long grand traverse.
