Soldiers to train here
One hundred and forty solidiers from the Malaysian Army will arrive in New Zealand early next month for five weeks of training and exercises with units of the New Zealand Army. The visit is being made under the Defence Mutual Assistance arrangement between New Zealand and Malaysia.
The men are all from the 6th Battalion, Royal Malay Regiment, and will' spend the first few weeks at Burnham Military Camp where they will train with 2-1 Battalion, Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. They will then go to Waiouru to continue their training.
The visit to New Zealand is code-named “Exercise Kris Mere.” A kris is a Malaysian hand weapon, and a mere a flat-faced Maori club. It will end with an intensive four-day exercise named “Northern Safari,” and the soldiers will return to Malaysia on April 10.
