Artist’s hoax
1.V.Z.1’.X neur«r-Co P> rijM» PARIS. I The Italian painter. Giuseppe Margutti. has disclosed how he fooled expens at the Louvre and won a 'one-million-lire ($ll7Ol bet by hanging one of his canvases among the museum's priceless impressionist works. According to Mr Margutti. 'the curator of the Louvre’s Jeu de Paurne Annexe was (not amused when he found I out about the hoax. The painting, of a piano. I hung in the gallery for 24 hours under a Claude Monet ! landscape before being re- i moved by the authorities. Mr Margutti. who last ■ exhibited in Milan in June of last year, smuggled his painting into the gallery last Wednesday after a friend had bet him one million lire that it could not be done. The artist and an accomplice hung it in the afternoon. It was still there on Thursday, but it had dis appeared by Fridas
