Man caught in rip
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, January 26. A man drowned today at Karekare when caught in a rip just outside the patrolled area. He was Kenneth Marshall Allen, aged 37, married, with two children, of Mangere. He managed to help his children ashore. When he was missed the surf club was notified, and a helicoper joined the search. His body was found 100 yards offshore.
