Boy lost in Waitaki

(.V.Z. Press ' Association) OAMARU. A Wellington boy, on holiday in Waimate, is missing, feared drowned, after he was caught in the main current of the Waitaki River while spear-fishing at 2.30 a.m. on Tuesday. He is Arthur Neal Wright, aged 15, of Whare Kauri Street, Strathmore, Wellington. He was one of a party of four youths in two boats spear-fishing in a lagoon near the mouth on the north side of the Waitaki River. The river rose suddenly, and the boats were caught in the current. The youths tried to swim to the nearby bank and three landed safely.

The boys who reached safety are Alistair Barry Thompson, aged 16, David John Parker, 17, and Barry Sadler, 16, all of Waimate.
