Pupils set on police

Another high school in Boston has been closed after black and white students battled and some pupils struggled to seize revolvers from policemen on duty.
Thirteen students were arrested at Hyde Park High School.
The police moved their service revolvers from outside holsters to inside pockets as they tried to restrain the pupil's. One policeman was kicked in the stomach, but was not seriously injured. It' was the latest racial [Violence in Boston schools. Another part of the city, South Boston, which is mainly white and largely Irish, has been plagued with trouble since the start of a court-ordered move to integrate schools by bringing in by bus children from predominantly black Roxbury.
South Boston white children were in turn to go by bus to schools in Roxbury. But many have transferred to private institutions or are staying at home.
Kiwi chick,—The Otorohanga kiwi house produced its first live kiwi chick on Sundav, after 12 unsuccessful attempts. The. president of the Otorohanga Zoological Society (Mr B. Rowe) said yesterday that the chick “looked "good” after hatching from the thirteenth kiwi egg laid during the last 14 months. Another egg is due to hatch in two weeks.— (P-A.)
