Reed’s fine run continues

(From Our Own Reporter)

HOKITIKA.

The Riccarton jockey, David Reed, continued with his fine run in T.A.B. double races when he narrowly won the Westland A. and P. Association Handicap on Totara Maid at Hokitika yesterday.

Reed rode the T.A.B. i double winners, Bun Tuck! and New York at Kumara] last Saturday and had dead-: heated on New York in the second leg at Reefton earlier in the week. He also rode the winners of the double at the Hororata Racing Club’s meeting in December. Totara Maid had a good run behind the pace-making Meneleus yesterday, but had to work hard all the way down the straight to get the better of Meneleus, which fought on well.

The remainder were headed

by Duffy, another five lengths away.

Totara Maid’s recent form had been disappointing, but in a weak field yesterday she was 2/1 in the betting, with Meneleus 1/2. Revell’s Road, a winner at Reefton earlier in the circuit was a convincing winner of the Hokitika-South \ Westland Hoteliers’ Association Handicap, second leg of the main double. He led for much of the journey and held out Peter’s Pick by three-quarters of a length.
