Last day of church youth conference
“Move Out 75,” the Church of Christ Australian and New Zealand Youth Convention, which will end in Christchurch this evening, had fostered a communal Christianity among the 400 people attending, the director (Mrs R. A. Chapman) said yesterday.
The 12 days of living, studying, discussing, and travelling together had built up a sense of union and community living, she said. The 330 Australians and 60 New Zealanders attending, returned to Christchurch yesterday after a six-day tour of the Sbuth Island. Ten buses took the group to the West Coast, and then through the Haast, Pass to Queenstown. At Greymouth and Queenstown the visitors stayed in high school buildings. Other stops were made at camping grounds in the Haast Pass. In Christchurch, they are staying at the University of Canterbury halls of residence at Ham. During the trip, a series of study and discussion groups, each with about 12 persons, were arranged. These were designed to help bring the members to a greater understanding of the
Christian faith and to communicate with each other, Mrs Chapman said. The conference will end this evening with a concert and service in the Ngaio Marsh Theatre at Ham, About 50 members of the South Australian Church of Christ Youth Choir will sing. Many of the young Australians will leave for home tomorrow, but about 145 will spend a few days in the North Island before they return to Australia.
