Lyttelton school’s centenary

Preparations are well in hand for the Lyttelton Main School’s centennial celebrations, which will begin on January 24.

The celebrations will begin with a wine and cheese evening at Mitchell Bros store, on Norwich Quay, beginning at 7.30 p.m.

Roll-call at the school will begin on January 25 (Saturday) at 1.30 p.m., followed by speeches of welcome. The school bell will be rung by the oldest male former pupil and the centennial cake cut by the oldest female former pupil. Photographs will be taken and afternoon tea served.

A buffet dinner at Mitchell Bros store at 7.30 p.m. will be followed by a semi-formal gala dance, but adequate provision will be

made for those who wish to sit back and reminisce to the accompaniment of soft music, if they do not wish to dance. On January 26, an interdenominational church service will be held outdoors in the school grounds, beginning at 2 p.m. Former pupils are expected from as far afield as Britain, Australia, Fiji, and the length and breadth of New Zealand. Mr B. N. Norris, a former pupil, is at present completing an illustrate* centennial booklet
