BOTTLE CAUSES SIRE’S DEATH
’ (New Zealand Press Association) HAMILTON. The thoroughbred stallion, All A’Light 11, one of the most promising young sires in the Waikato, had to be destroyed yesterday after being injured in a paddock accident.
A broken soft-drink bottle thrown from the main highway beside the Te Rapa stud, where All A’Light II stood, was the cause of the stallion’s death. He was placed in his usual paddock at- the stud early this morning and was found soon afterwards distresed, having galloped on the bottle. He suffered severe injuries to a tendon, and veterinary surgeons were unable to save him. All A’Light 11, which was purchased for the Te Rapa Stud in 1970 after standing two seasons at stud in Australia, was bred in England, where he was a good winner before being retired. He was an immediate suc-
cess at stud, and from 15 starts in New Zealand has been represented by 10 winners. His oldest New Zealand progeny are three-year-olds and include the outstanding Matamata filly, Analight, one of last season’s best juveniles and a winner in Australia during a campaign there last spring. All A’Light H’s other good winners include Litup, Set A’Light, Otalight, Katushka, and El Fuego. Two of the most impressive two-year-old winners in recent weeks, Tudor Light and Ruamanu, are also by him. He has been represented by a number of good winners in Australia as well.
