TROTTING Bronze Regal should overcome draw
A good last-start second to Golden Nurse at Addington suggests that Bronze Regal will be able to overcome a difficult second-line draw and win the Timaru Challenge Stakes at Washdyke today. '
The race will be one of the features of the programme, and has drawn a large and even field, a number of others besides Bronze Regal looking to have chances of success. Bronze Regal has had seven races this season, mainly in three-year-old company, and has rarely been far away at the finish. He will again have the services of Jack Smolenski today, and if he can obtain a clear run he should be hard
to beat. His run at Addington on New Year’s Day was a good effort, and in keeping with his impressive second to Noodlum in the Second Riccarton Stakes on Show Day. His toughest opposition should come from There and Back and Graduand, both of which are much better than their latest efforts suggest. November success There and Back capped off some consistent form earlier in the season by winning -the Orari Challenge Stakes in late November, and those behind him included Steven Stock, Bound To Be, Esteban, and Nelson Armbro. The Lumber Dream colt has been unplaced in three starts since then, but his fifth at his last Addington start suggested that he was coming back into form. With his good draw it would be no surprise to see him disputing the finish. Graduand has had no luck in his recent starts, and a better guide to his prospects
is his fourth in the North Canterbury Three-Year-Old Stakes at Rangiora against strong opposition. Bound To Be failed at his last start, but was very consistent before that, and the improving Tane Kaha will have his share of support. The recent maiden graduate, Quite Regal, and the talent- 1
ed Eau Sauvage also have to I be respected from the front line. Avon Song and Peter Ger- ; aid appeal most in the Highfield Handicap, the first leg : of the T.A.B. double, and Royal George, Flying Tempest, and Brother Eden form a likely trio in the Kerry‘town Handicap.
