Ripa Island camp

About 100 sea cadets, with 10 officers, are already camped on Ripapa Island in Lyttelton Harbour for the eighteenth adventure training course run with the help of the New Zealand Cadet Force, the Royal New Zealand Navy, and the Navy League. The 10-day camp started on January 2. The cadets are from the Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, and Dunedin areas. Three cadets from units in Melbourne are attending the camp as part of an exchange scheme. The camp programme includes tramping and camping out overnight on Banks Peninsula; sailing in 17ft cutters on Lyttelton Harbour; search and rescue exercises; first aid; and some preparation of meals.

Catering is done by Army staff from Burnham Military Camp. The cadets also man the launch Cornwell on duty runs to Lyttelton each day for provisions.
