More races to Selwood

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Mel Seiwood, of Christchurch, has proved to be the master of a temperamental Wellington harbour during the International Moths championships being sailed off Petone. He has won four of the five races so far. Yesterday he led the fleet home by two minutes in the first race and three minutes in the second. His only failure in the series so far was when he came third in Thursday morning’s race. Once again the southerly wind gusted to 20 knots across the course. And it took its toll—lo boats withdrew during the first race and four withdrew during the afternoon race.

Although Seiwood’s wins were relatively easy there was some tight racing for the minor placings. In the afternoon race only two secons separated the second and third place-getters. Results:

Race four.—Redeem (M. Selwood. Waimakiriri) 1; Don Quixote (T Blanchard. Waimakiriri), 2; Thrasher (Mattson, Napier), 3; Stir (A. Holland. Waimakiriri), 4. Race five.—Redeem 1, Stir 2, Thrasher 3, Don Quixote 4. -

Surfing.—A latk of rldeable surf at Plha has forced the postponement of the 1975 national surfing championships. The men’s semi-finals and final, and the international open event, will now be contested on a North Island beach during the Auckland Anniversary weekend
