Cricket coach arrives

Peter Philpott, the, former Australian test’ cricketer, will arrive in Christchurch tomorrow to conduct his sixth coaching clinic for the Canterbury Cricket Association. Philpott has already made. a substantial contribution to! the sport in the province, particularly in the difficult! art of leg-spin bowling., Many of the more promising 1 players in New Zealand have graduated from his classes. ! ; This year a very comprehensive programme has been arranged. Philpott will cover the sub-associations based in Titnaru, Ashburton, and Rangiora next week, while a leading Canterbury coach,! Peter Sharp, will travel to Greymouth. CLINIC Other local coaches will; administer a four-day clinic' at Hagley Oval for boys from Forms I to IV, with an ex-1 pected attendance of more! than 200. Included will be; the two provincial primary; school sides chosen to take part in the South Island tournament later this month; and the Canterbury second-! ary schoolgirl squad. In the second week, those who have shown most potential will be retained for specialist coaching under! Philpott. An older group of 30 cricketers from classes above Fourth Form will be ; added.
