Situation: A shallow, slow-moving depression is centred east of the North Island and pressures are high south-east of the South Island; a depression is deepening over the western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Canterbury, Kaikoura Coast: Moderate east or northeast winds about the coast, but winds variable inland; extensive low cloud at first with patches of light rain and mist, but cloud breaking during the day; mild. Marlborough: South-easteries mainly moderate but fresh
in exposed places about the Sounds; mild with rather cloudy skies and a few light showers at first but fair intervals increasing during the day. Nelson, Buller, North Westland: Light or moderate variable winds and daytime sea breezes; fine and warm apart from scattered thundery showers about the ranges in the afternoon or evening. South Westland: Mild northeasterlies freshening slowly; cloud increasing and a few patches of light rain developing. Outlook: Little change.
