Shield lead reduced
Canterbury’s slender lead in the Plunket Shield competition was cut by two teams yesterday. When play began, Canterbury had 52, Otago 45 and Wellington 40, with Auckland on 38, Central Districts 26 and Northern Districts 18. Yesterday, Otago and Wellington scored five points, Canterbury four and Central one. Otago had five for batting against Central, Wellington two for batting and three for bowling against Canterbury, and Central a bowling point against Otago. The table now reads: Canterbury 56, Otago 50, Wellington 45, Auckland 38, Central 27, Northern 18.
