Touring XI 12 behind Wanganui
("The Press" Special Service) , WANGANUI. The Canterbury B cricket captain, Keith Thomson, was undecided last evening whether to bat on or declare 112 runs behind Wanganui on the first innings of the final match of the northern tour. At stumps, Canterbury was 173 for five in reply to Wanganui’s 185. Canterbury had Wanganui in trouble at 28 for three — Kit Chambers being responsible for the early break-through — and again when the home side was 120 for eight at lunch, but the last two Wanganui partnerships put on 83 runs as the Canterbury fielding lapsed. Canterbury benefited from !the fluent driving of Tony iMcKendry, whose 60 was his best innings of the tour. [John Phillips added an unibeaten half-century to place (Canterbury in an excellent position at the end of the
'day. Scores.—Wanganui 185 (M. Gill 45, G. Mitchell 29, G. English 26; P. Hammant 5/85, K. Chambers 3/40, W. Wilson 2/34), Canterbury B 173/5 (A. McKendry 60, J. Phillips 50 not out, K. Coh lins 20 not out).
