Tayler wins award

Richard Tayler, the Blenheim athlete, has been awarded the Lonsdale Cup for 1974 by the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association. The cup is awarded annually to an outstanding athlete in any Games sport. The award to Tayler — the Commonwealth Games 10,000 metres gold medallist — was announced yesterday by the association chairman (Mr Lance Cross). Mr Cross said that Tayler was awarded the cup also on the basis of his performances at indoor track meetings in the United States. Tayler is also the “New Zealand Sportsman of the Year.”
