Tahitians for N.Z. Games

Two athletes from Tahiti. Miss Daniele Guyonnet (pentathlon) and Steven \airaaroa ( javelin), had been added to the list of in\ ited competitors for the New Zealand Games track and field competition, the chairman of the athletics control committee, Mr E. Lunn, said yesterday.

No representatives from Tahiti had originally been included in the games athletics, Mr Lunn said. Officials of the Tahiti basketbail team which had been invited to compete had inquired about the possibility of athletes taking part as well.

“We had a look at the possibility and decided we could fit two into the pro gramme,” Mr Lunn said.

Miss Guyonnet is an IS year-old of unusual promise As well as the pentathlon, she will contest the 100 metres hurdles and the high jump.

It is assumed that he will run in the 10.000 metres because the marathon is not an official games event.
