Errors in tax tables
f.Vew Zealand Press Association) GREYMOUTH, December 1. The task of calculating the sums that must be deducted from wages earned after this week in order to comply with the Government’s compulsory savings scheme, has been made no easier by errors in Inland Revenue Department tables.
The new weekly P.A.Y.E tables distributed to employers throughout the country a few weeks ago contain errors. The extra emolument tables on pages 13 and 14 are all incorrect.
i The static rate for extra ! emolument is 23c in the dollar, and the tax has been correctly shown for amounts 1 :up to $4O of income, but from $40.10 to $BO, the taxi involved is incorrectly ! shown. The error is further te-' peated on income of $BO.lO to $lOO. As well, the new fortnightly tables distributed to! employers also contain the same errors.
The Commissionerdesignate of Inland Revenue (Mr T. M. Hunt) said in Wellington tonight that the errors were being corrected. Mr Hunt said ne was not certain if the errors occurred through a computer fault or manual miscalculation. It is understood that replacement sheets are being printed.
