Middle East clash

(N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) BEIRUT, Nov. 17. Lebanese artillery today shelled two Israeli gunboats trying to approach the Lebanese coast, near Raq Al Nakoura, on the southern tip of Lebanon, a military spokesman has announced. It was the latest in a series of incidents involving Lebanon and Israel over the last five days. The Israelis have shelled populated areas in the south, and helicopter-borne troops have landed in Lebanese territory, blowing up houses and kidnapping several men.

At least five people were killed and several others wounded in the incidents, Lebanese sources reported.
