Hang-gliding record
A new New Zealand endurance record for hang gliding, of five hours 12 minutes, was set by Mr R. Ealson, an aircraft engineer, of Christchurch, yesterday.
Mr Ealson soared on strong easterly winds off the Port Hills above Teddington. During the flight he sat on the padded seat of his hang glider. Several other members of the Canterbury Hang Gliding Club soared for more than three hours. The old New Zealand record for endurance flying was set in the North Island earlier this year. It was four hours 30 minutes. The world record is 10 hours, set in Hawaii. . i
