Body may be patient

(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON. The Nelson police think they have identified the body found under the floorboards of a villa being demolished at Ngawhatu Hospital. They think it is the body of an elderly patient who was missed from the hospital in September 1948. A search for the patient was unsuccessful.

The body, found near the base of a chimney, had been mummified by the dry, hot air under the building. An inquest into the man’s death will be held, but a date has yet to be fixed.
