New club opens
The Avon Toastmasters Club will hold its inaugural meeting at the White Heron Travel Lodge this evening. Toastmasters from ( throughout the country are , expected to be present at . the banquet, and official , guests will include the (Mayor and Mayoress of •Christchurch (Mr and Mrs H. G. Hay). j Guest speaker will be Detective Inspector R. Macdonald, of the Armed (Offenders Squad. During the evening, the toastmasters’ district vice--president (Mr P. Cooper) -will present the charter to the interim president of the ■ new club (Mr J. E. Mulder). Mr B. Clemens, the educa- • tion vice-president, will be i acting toastmaster at the -function.
