jockey refuses to ride
. CN'.Z. Press Association) INVERCARGILL. Before the start. of the Kaiwera Handicap at Gore on ! Saturday, R. E. McAra, who had ' weighed out' for Melded, came before the Judicial committee (and stated that he did not want |to ride., as he considered that rain on the track had made the • surface dangerous. The committee, after Rearing i his submissions, and also a sub- ’ mission from the jockey, J. D. j Pankhurst, inspected the I track. Although light rain was I falling, it was not considered that ‘the track was dangerous. The committee authorised McAra to forego his ride and S. J. Allen substituted.
The trainer, S. G. Shaw, was fined $lO when he failed to get permission before acceptance time to race Linley Wood in blinkers.
Shortly after straightening up for the run home in the Knapdale Maiden Plate, Whistling Jack (G. Julius), when being hard ridden shifted ground inwards and caused interference to Turkish Delight on the inside., Julius was later found guilty; of careless riding causing the interference .He was fined $2O. j
