Situation: A deep, slow moving depression centred east of Otago covers New Zealand. Forecast: Canterbury and Kaikoura Coast: South-westerlies, fresh and sometimes strong, especially along the coasts; changeable and; cool, with showers, especially in the Alps and! about the coast, but some clear periods in sheltered inland areas. Marlborough, except the Kaikoura Coast: North to north-west winds, gale

force through Cook Strait and strong and squally at times in other areas, becoming slightly weaker during the day; showers, with fair periods. Nelson: South-westerlies, freshening; heavy showers with thunder about the western high country and I occasional showers elseI where, but long fair periods; cool. Buller and Westland: Fresh south-westerlies; changeable and cool; showers. Outlook: South-westerlies with showers.
