Third successive win for Higham

A Christchurch driver,! B. Higham. has won “The Press’ ’-R.A.T.E.C. Alpine Trial for the third successive year. Higham lost only 638 points when he drove his Cortina from Belfast to Blenheim in the contest during the week-end. More than half his points came from missing two check points. Second was a crew of two,l L. H. Kerr and J. Achilles.! both of Christchurch, who! drove a Vauxhall. They lost 674 points. Only one of the 24 com-) petitors in the rally failed to I finish the course. He had great difficulty in navigating the course yesterday. This was the main fault of all the; • crews. Three-quarters of the distance was over tar-sealed roads. The cars travelled via the Leader Road to Kai- 1 koura where they stopped for lunch. They then navigated) the Redwood Pass into Blenheim where they took part in further competitions on Sunday. Only three of the competi-j tors were not from Christchurch.
