Truck on fire
The deck of a New Zealand Breweries truck, laden with 186 cartons of beer, caught fire while the truck was travelling south on the main highway through Tinwald about 9.30 a.m. yesterday. Two machines from the Ashburton Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to put out the fire, which is believed to have started from an overheated exhaust pipe. Firemen had to unload the truck to get at the seat of the fire. About 12 cartons were scorched but the contents were not damaged.
