Her intention was stated in a letter received from her by the Waikato swimming centre chairman (Mr S. C. Jacobs was liaison officer with a party of Waikato swimmers which visited the United States. With the man* ager, Mr L. Rose, and two of the swimmers, M. Siatu’d and J. Burton, he stayed with Mr Allen Bird, who was the organiser of an American trip to the Waikato in 1973. It was from Mr Bird that Miss Cox obtained Mr Jacobs’S name as a New Zealand contact. Miss Cox belongs to the Lakewood Aquatic Club, and trains under J. Montrella< Her ocean coach is John Son* nichsen. | In September she broke the .record for the swim between (Catalina Island and Los An* geles. This swim came aftei an attempt she made at the time of the Waikato Swim* mers’ United States visit Ort that occasion she had to give up the attempt when fog closed in. The information she il seeking from Mr Jacobs re* lates particularly to watel temperatures, currents, and sharks.
