Hotel room burgled
American Express travellers cheques worth $940 were stolen from a room in the United Service Hotel, Cathedral Square, between 10.15 p.m. and 10.45 p.m. on Thursday night. The cheques, in the name of R. C. Mitchell, were taken by a thief who climbed a fire escape and entered through an open window. Pork and beef worth $444 were stolen from Doherty’s Butchery, 414 Colombo Street, on Thursday night. A rear door was broken open. Shop takings of $582 were taken from a house in Totara Street between 8.45 p.m. and 9.15 p.m. Thursday.
