$4000 for the old
At least $4OOO, possibly $6OOO, was collected yesterday in the annual street appeal for the Christchurch Aged People’s Welfare Council. The council’s secretary (Mr G. A. Mole) said that it was not yet possible to give a more exact figure as a lot of the boxes were still out in the suburbs. However he hoped that the money raised would equal, or even beat, last year’s total of about $6OOO. Most of the council’s finance comes from a Golden Kiwi grant; but street appeals are its next best source of funds; this year’s money will be used for general administration.
