Office bomb hurts 16
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright) TOKYO, October 14. Sixteen people were injured when a bomb hidden in a parcel exploded today at the central Tokyo headquarters of the giant Mitsui trading company. Police said that two of the victims were in a serious condition. Police, called to the building after a telephoned bomb warning, were examining a brown-paper parcel when it went off. It was not immediately clear how many police were among the injured.
The blast in a third-floor corridor littered the area with debris and blew out all the windows on the floor. All employees were moved to the nearby Hibiya Park while police searched the office block in case another bomb had been planted. A 21-year-old Mitsui employee said that he was on the third floor when the parcel blew up with a deafening bang. “I ran down the stairs but I was almost deaf after the explosion,” he said. Police said that three bomb warnings had been
i telephoned to the building [shortly before 1 p.m. by a person sounding like a young man.
