City Council election
Sir, — The local body elections are over and democratically our city has decided that we desire a change. However, before the blare of trumpets dies away and while memories are still frash, let us be fair and acknowledge some of the milestones our former Mayor achieved for us. Often, against a vicious opposition he won for us a most beautiful venue for very successful Commonwealth Games. Also, he was partnered by a most gracious lady who enhanced her role, with poise, courage, and truly contributed in every area she was able. There are many citizens who owe her a great deal. We were told that the Mayoral election would be a tussle of personalties. That has been settled, and now we must wait and trust that our new Mayoral team will match personality with achievement. —Yours etc., PER ARDUA. October 13, 1974.
