Advertisement by bank
Sir, — After listening to the David Frost Show last night I was under the impression censorship did exist within the N.Z.B.C. Why then is such a nauseous narration of the Canterbury Savings Bank’s latest advertisement deemed suitable for intelligent educated people? The only thing it inspires me to do is bank elsewhere. There must be many ways of encouraging new business without speaking roughly, dropping “g’s” ana “h’s.” — Yours, etc.,
SAVIN BLUES. September 24, 1974. [Mr F. Dickson, general manager of the Canterbury Savings Bank, replies: “I was sorry to note that your correspondent did not like the particular advertisement. Since this new technique was introduced, the bank has received many favourable comments about it. Few advertisements in fact are done in this manner. The bank makes an appeal to all sections of the community and some people probably prefer a more ‘8.8.C.’ approach — I do myself — but then too, others have a preference for something a little different.”]
