Coalmining aid urged
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The Government could not delay any longer in granting financial support and incentives for private and State coal mines, said the Opposition spokesman on mines, Mr L. C. Schultz (Coromandel). The Government had failed to inject any confidence into the coal industry, even though increased demands would be made on coal in the future, said Mr Schultz in a statement. “It is inevitable that private coal mines will be forced out of business if they have to carry the full burden of inflation themselves. “Price adjustment and improved mechanisation must be considered very carefully by the Government if the problem of energy resources is not to deteriorate to a more serious state next year,” he said.
