Permission to smoke

(N.Z. Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH. Senior boarders at New Plymouth Boys High School have won permission to smoke cigarettes. The principal (Mr G. R. Crammond) said that permission had been granted and applied .only to boarders over 16 years who had written consent from their parents. They are allowed to smoke only in specified areas in the boarding establishment. The move came after consultation between staff and boarders, and Mr Crammond hoped it would stamp out clandestine smoking. But the school would be just as tough on those caught smoking illegally, he said.
