Tibetan rebels still active

(N.Z.P.A. -Reuter —Copyright) PEKING. The Chinese press has mentioned for the first time for many years the continued existence of Tibetan rebels, Agence France Presse reports. The “People’s Daily,” the organ of the Communist Party, has published a New China News Agency report from Katmandu about recent measures taken by the Nepalese Government to disarm Tibetan irregulars who are using Nepal as a base for hostile activities in China. The report did not specifically mention the Tibetan rebellion of 1959, but said in an indirect reference: “The Nepalese newspapers point out that, after the failure of the armed rebellion in Tibet by the serf-owner reactionaries headed by the Dalai Lama, the rebels fled to India and, from there, armed with weapons and other equipment, they infiltrated into Mustang and other places in the northern part of Nepal.”

The N.C.N.A. report quoted the Nepalese press as stating that the Government of Nepal had ordered the rebels to give up their arms, and that by August 7 more than 4000 of them had done so, and had registered with the authorities.
