‘Risk’ on theatre
The Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council is taking a risk in assisting some new theatre groups, but risk is necessary for artistic development, said the council’s annual report tabled in Parliament. It says experimental groups are doing some of the liveliest theatre in New Zealand, engaging new and varied audiences. In 1973 the council assisted the Action Theatre and Amarnus Theatre in Wellington, and the Living Theatre troupe in Auckland, enabling the groups to take their work to some parts of New Zealand well off the beaten track.
