Smart trial by Becky

("The Press” Special Service) OTAKI. Lightly-raced, but perfectly bred two-year-old, Becky returned a smart trial at Otaki yesterday in preparation for the Manawatu Hunt meeting. Working on the trial grass, which was soft, Becky scampered over 800 metres alone in 52 1-5, the final 600 metres in 401-5. She is likely to show improved form this week. Two Manawatu maidens, Luleigh and Te Ara Two. finished together after 1000 metres in 1.8 4-5, the final 600 metres in 42 4-5. Black Rod, which is expected to resume at Foxton next month, completed 600 metres in 40 3-5, a good time considering his lack of recent racing.

Prince Cicero, Rhondina, St Charlemagne, and Blue Sonata finished in that order after jumping from the barrier at the 800 metres. The distance took 49 3-5, and the final 600 metres, was done in 36.
