Prince Amura fancied

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent BRISBANE. The smart New Zealand sprinter. Prince Amura, faces a tough task in turning back a strong Australian challenge in the $75,000 Doomben Ten Thousand, the feature event at Doomben today. New Zealand stables have an unusually low representation in such a big race, but Prince Amura, even though he is rated only an outside chance at 25 to 1, could yet carry the day. His owner-trainer, Mr J. C. O’Brien, makes no secret of the fact that he considers Prince Amura (Gold Sovereign—Lady Amura) extremely well treated by the handicapper with only 50.3 kg and rain earlie) this week boosted his confidence.

Mr O’Brien says Prince Amura is a good sprinter on a good track, but an outstanding one With the sting out of the ground. Prince Amura has scored two wins and a second in his last three starts in Melbourne and only an inexperienced jockey who did not appreciate the fact that Prince Amura dislikes being hit with the whip stood in the way of a hat-trick of wins. The early favourites for the race is T. J. Smith’s John’s Hope, winner of the Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill. Sydney, in 1972. John’s Hope had his only success since then on this track two starts back with a recordbreaking win in the Booroolong Handicap, but was beaten into second place at Eagle Farm last week.
