TASMAN BAY PROJECT

(N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) NELSON, June 23.

A canning and fishing project planned by Sealord Products, Ltd of Nelson, will be worth several million dollars a year in turnover for the company.

Subject to approval from the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries for a sardine trap net in Tasman Bay, the company is extending its canning facilities to provide for an annual production of more than 4m cans.

These products will include cans of herrings in tomato sauce, tuna (landed from the West Coast), and sardines in oil. “The cost of the project, including marine facilities and processing equipment, will exceed $400,000,” the managing director of Sealord Products (Mr C. C. Hufflett) said yesterday.
