Corso kitset released
Despite criticism and resignations of top officials from the Corso council they did not agree with the implementation of Corso’s “Action for World Development Programme.” Corso has gone ahead and recently released a kitset. aimed at educat- ! ing New Zealander’s about world problems and their causes. The kitset consists of four (booklets called “Development I of the Poor Through the; (Civilising of the Rich,”; ! “Action for World Develop-1 ment Education Action Manual," “How to Plan Effective Publicity Campaigns” and “The Haslemere Declar-: iation—a Radical Analysis of| Ithe Relationships Between' the Rich World and the Poor! World.” ! “This manual is a guide for
New Zealanders who want to ; help inform and educate ! other New Zealanders about ' the deeper causes of world poverty, hunger and human suffering. It has been compiled as part of Corso’s continuing efforts to educate New Zealanders about world problems and their causes, and provide opportunities ; whereby people can do something about these problems, said Mr A. Arnold, Corso’s education officer. He said that this is; Corso’s most ambitious i attempt, in its 30-year his:tory, to enlarge and extend its educational efforts. “For [many this may seem not a ; matter of education but of [revolution. Already it has; seemed so to some,” said Mr Arnold. “We stress the fact that: (this is a guide and contains: | only brief outlines of pro-: [grammes. The ideas, therefore. need to he adapted for .local situations and conditions. Successful corn
munity education must be re ilated to the local situation (and must start from where (the people are.” The kitset also contains a i self-tax scheme which means that the ordinary person can arrange through his or her 'bank, for a deduction from ; his or her salary to be applied to the project he chooses This challenges New Zea landers to reduce individual incomes by a fixed amount or percentage each year. The other booklets sax that : it is the rich who are oppressing the poor and any attempt by the poor to gain power is j swiftly and violently suppressed by the rich. Cycling.—B.
