Mona Vale concern

The Christchurch City [Council’s decision to sell ipart of Mona Vale is being istrongly opposed by the Christchurch Civic Trust. Mr I. G. B. Wilson, the ichairman of the trust, said that it was concerned about the council’s decision to sei! the part of Mona Vale called the bog garden, on the east side of the river. The council should have let the public know and advised the various groups which assisted in the money-raising effort to help the council buy Mona Vale, he said.

The trust had investigated j the titles, and found that the [council could pass a resolution to. sell any part of it at any time. The trust felt that Mona Vale should be made a public reserve, in the same way as Hagley Park, so that if the council wanted to sell any part it would have to advertise and hear public objections, rather than just pass a resolution, said Mr [Wilson.
