Symbol will be guarded

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 21. Legislation was being drafted to protect the Commonwealth Games symbol when the agreements for its use expired on June 30, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr May) said today. Tin symbol is owned by the Commonwealth Game's Organising Committee, which has asked the Government to vest the symbol in the nation after June 30. It is intended that the Minister of Internal Affairs will be able to authorise the use of the symbol. Unauthorised use will be an offence under the legislation, which, it is hoped, will come into force on July 1. It is proposed that any fees for the use of the symbol should be used for the benefit of the New Zealand Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association.
