Pacific tests to go on

(X.Z.P.A.-Reuter —Copyright)

PARIS, May 20

Opponents of French testing of nuclear devices at Mururoa Atoll in the Pacific will have felt little joy at the announcement of Mr Giscard d’Estaing’s victory in the French Presidential election.

The President-elect has stated that he will definitely authorise the continuation of French nuclear tests as part of his continuing of the policy of an independent nuclear strike force.

This should mean that French relations with New Zealand, Australia, and some South American countries will remain shaky for some time.
